Utter Filth, particularly the second part of the programme directed by André Agius, created a dreamlike, fragmented but ultimately coherent piece which allowed the audience to enter and embrace emotionally, and subsequently allowed each performer the chance to connect and show their skills. It was that unusual thing, a showcase piece of genuine theatrical interest that completed a hugely enjoyable afternoon at the Traverse. – Tony Reekie, Executive Director, Catherine Wheels
André Agius’ Utter Filth was a confident and enjoyable theatre experience, imaginative in its use of storytelling technique and consistently effective in its execution by the young cast. With a strong choreographic core its use of stage picture, sound and spoken word, Andre orchestrated an evening of metaphoric filth and intrigue. – Mark Thomson, former Royal Lyceum Theatre Artistic Director
What is the story behind a stain? Are all stains inherently negative? Or can their perception be challenged when attached to a positive story? From an ink stain on Marie-Antoinette’s inauguration declaration to two sisters trying to re-kindling a childhood relationship to a paint stain on a carpet as a mother reminisces the passing of her son, through moments of stark juxtaposition, visual agility and sharp choreography 15 actors explore the stories behind stains, in an exciting and dynamic way.
